Marathon Petroleum Corporation (not to be confused with Marathon Oil) is an oil refining, marketing and pipeline transport company located in the United States. Marathon Petroleum was founded originally as a subsidiary of Marathon Ashland Petroleum, LLC in 2005 and was previously a subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation until 2001. Marathon Petroleum?s corporate headquarters are located in Findlay, Ohio. Marathon Petroleum is an independent downstream oil company that focuses on refining, pipeline and marketing after the split from Marathon Oil. Marathon Petroleum?s refineries are located in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Louisiana, Kentucky and Texas with a Minnesota refinery sold to the Garyville Major Expansion project making the refinery obsolete. In 2010, Marathon Petroleum signed an agreement with The Pantry, Inc. to supply fuel to over 500 Pantry locations. Marathon Petroleum Corporation currently has approximately 5,100 franchised stations and provides primarily pipeline transport, refining and marketing throughout the United States. The company also operates two divisions; Speedway LLC and Catlettsburg Refining LLC. The President and CEO of Marathon Petroleum is Gary R. Heminger.
