Morgan Stanley is a US-based multinational financial services firm that serves corporations, governments, financial institutions, and individuals in 42 countries. Morgan Stanley?s corporate headquarters are located in New York City and the financial firm employs approximately 60,000 employees and works from more than 1300 offices worldwide. In 2011, Morgan Stanley reported $39.310 billion in revenue, $6.114 billion in operating income, $4.111 billion net income, $807.69 billion in total assets, and $57.211 billion total equity. Morgan Stanley was formed by Henry S. Morgan and Harold Stanley who were both partners at J.P. Morgan & Co. It was formed in 1935 and today its main business segments are Global Wealth Management, Institutional Securities, and Investment Management. The most profitable business segment of Morgan Stanley is Institutional Securities which provides capital raising and financial advisor services, restructurings, real estate and project finance, and corporate lending. Global Wealth Management Group provides brokerage and investment advisory services under Morgan Stanley and also provides financial and wealth planning services to some clients. The third business segment, Asset Management, provides global asset management products and services in fixed income, equity, private equity and alternative investments to retail and institutional clients through third-party distribution channels.
