Ralph Lauren is a fashion designer from the United States who offers his luxury clothing through the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation. The specialty of the retail stores is high end semi formal and casual wear for both women and men. In addition, the company sells home and house wears, accessories, and fragrances. The headquarters of Polo Ralph Lauren are located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Ralph Lauren who was born with the name Ralph Lifshitz, got a loan of $50,000 in 1967 and launched his brand, starting with ties for men. Within two years, in 1969 Ralph Lauren opened a boutique shop within Bloomingdales, a department store in Manhattan. Near this same time he created a line of women?s clothing that were suits tailored similarly to the classic men?s style. This is when the Polo emblem appeared for the very first time, located on the sleeve of a woman?s shirt. By 1971, Ralph Lauren launched a stand alone store. The store was located in the city of Beverly Hills, California with his first women?s collection. The brand went international in 1981 when the first international Ralph Lauren store was opened in London. In 1997, Ralph Lauren went public and is currently sold on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol RL. Since the company was started and the first Polo brand created, there have been several other brands used by the company including the Purple Label which was launched in 1994, the Blue Label, the Black Label, Rugby Ralph Lauren, Polo Golf, as well as several others. There have been several fragrances released by the company as well.
